A6 New Road Developments

7th Jun 2017

Vicky and Richard from Farrans took some of the staff from the school to visit the site of the new A6 road. The scheme will upgrade the A6 from Randalstown to Toome, and from Toome to Castledawson to dual-carriageway. There is a huge amount of work going on behind our school. Thousands of square meters of earth and stone is being moved, to make way for the new road. The construction workers have found a vast amount of rock under the soil and over the next few months they will begin to blast the rock. It will then be used in the construction of the new road. Enormous earth mover trucks work in a constant chain to remove the earth from one part of the site to another.

After the summer Safety Sam will visit our school to talk with the boys and girls about safety on construction sites. There will be further opportunities later next year, for our children to take part in workshops around Forces and Energy with engineers from Farrans. The construction of the A6 is a very exciting project and there will be lots of learning opportunities for the pupils of Moneynick over the next few years.
