RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOL AWARD

1st Sep 2017

As part of our work with Duneane Primary this year we have registered as a Rights Respecting School.

'A rights-respecting school is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted. Young people and the school community learn about children’s rights by putting them into practice every day.' (Unicef Rights Respecting School Award)

We are excited to build on the good practice which already exists within our school and to achieve our Record of Commitment within the next while. Through the completion of this award the children will understand how they are valued members of our community who have opinions which are truly appreciated.

The Y 4-7 pupils attended a workshop explaining the RRS Award. Each class has now drawn up a Charter for their classroom which they will sign and adhere to. The Charter lays out the rights and responsibilities within the classroom setting.

Soon we will be holding elections to the new School Council. Interested candidates will hand in application forms and elections will take place. So watch this space for news on our School Council.
