Dogs Trust

25th Apr 2022

Cathy, the Dogs Trust Education and Community Officer in our local area, visited school today Monday 25 April to provide a curriculum-linked workshop on how to behave safely around dogs with respect, kindness and empathy.

Safety Around Dogs: P4-7

Using critical thinking, pupils assessed how safe dog-themed situations may be and in doing so, learned to identify real life situations when it is not safe to touch a dog. Pupils were trained in how to greet a dog safely and how to stay calm if they feel scared when approached by an unfamiliar dog. Pupils investigated a mock dog-safety themed case study. Using the “evidence” pupils uncovered why we should not presume a dog is friendly, based on their breed, size or appearance. We concluded on what safe and responsible behaviour around all dogs should look like.

Happy Dog Rules: P1-3

In this fun workshop, pupils explored the “5 Happy Dog Rules”-  by following dog-safety rules pupils discovered how to stay safe around dogs.

We wish to thank Cathy for her time and support with our PDMU (Personal Development and Mutual Understanding) Curriculum. Learning to stay safe is a vital part of our personal development.
