Learning about Life Cycles
From tiny eggs to tadpoles and fluttering butterflies our Primary 1/2/3 class have been learning about life cycles of native animals! 🐣🦋🐛 This has brought the STEM topic science to life in a hands-on way for our pupils.
As they observed and sketched reference images of animals in the different stages of their life cycles, the children deepened their understanding of how living things grow and change during a lesson that:
-
🔍 Develops observation skills – children learn to notice changes and details
-
🧠 Supports early scientific thinking – introduces key science concepts like growth and change
-
🗣️ Builds vocabulary – children learn and use words like egg, larva, and adult
-
📚 Encourages sequencing – understanding the order of a life cycle strengthens early maths and literacy skills
-
🎨 Inspires creativity – life cycles are explored through art, storytelling, and imaginative play
-
🌿 Connects learning to the real world – helps children make sense of nature and the environment
It’s been amazing to see them explore science while connecting to the world around them. 🌍🔍
