Our Running Club, which began back in October 2023, has gone from strength to strength growing into one of the most loved and inclusive parts of school life at Moneynick PS. What started as a small group with a big dream has become a real movement within our school community! From the outset, our vision was clear: to spark a passion for running that would go far beyond the finish line. We wanted to nurture determination, commitment and perseverance in our pupils as qualities that would carry into their schoolwork, other sports and friendships that last a lifetime.
Under the guidance of Mrs McConway, our Afterschool club welcomes pupils from Primary 3–7 every Friday. Along the way, we’ve been lucky to have some incredible guest coaches join us including Coach Cathy Carey, Sean McAuley and Declan Leung from Athletics NI to share their experience, encouragement and enthusiasm for the sport.
We could only have dreamed of the success our pupils have achieved in recent years.🏅

✨ Numerous individual placings and personal bests along the way!
But it’s not all about medals and trophies. Our teams, along with our fantastic fun run pupils, also take part in the Flahavan’s Athletics NI Primary School Cross Country League, giving them the chance to compete alongside schools from across Antrim and Belfast.
Last year, our Primary 7 boy finished as a top 5 qualifier from over 150 participants, while our Girls Team placed in the top 3 schools in Antrim, earning both spots at the Athletics NI Final in February 2025 which was an incredible experience for all! This year, our runners are already lacing up and looking ahead to another exciting season ahead. Here are our provisional race dates:
📍 Antrim Forum – Friday 24th October (1000m)
📍 Lisnagarvey High School, Lisburn – Friday 5th December (1200m)
📍 Six Mile Water Park, Ballyclare – Friday 23rd January (1400m)
